Immediately from the first line you give us vivid imagery. The sense of rivalry, desire and power are evident right from the "jewels" in your first line to the "crimson blood" further into your poem. It's the use of colour especially that makes the conflict stand out.

The idea on which your poem is based is complex (as all family relationships are), and your technique enables the reader to sense the imagery in your words; I really see the "frost cakes" and the "crimson blood". You've really brought the setting to life.

I like your use of a 'refrain' with "my mother"; I get the feeling that you don't agree with the disputes within your family. This tone is very evident in these refrain lines.

Your last line ends the poem with as much impact as your first began it. Overall, you have a strong persona in your poem, making the vision of the poem very clear.
